Keynote speech of Vice President of the European Commission, Franco Frattini

On November 22, 2005, the members of the network of the presidents of the Supreme judicial courts of the EU gathered in Brussels for a seminar with representatives of the EU institutions.

This event was opened by Franco Frattini, Vice President of the European commission, who insisted on the key role Supreme courts were to play in the effectiveness of the European area of justice.

In his speech, Jean-Marie Cavada, Chairman of the Committee on civil liberties, justice and Home affairs of the European Parliament, underlined that European citizens expected more and more quality and efficiency from their justice systems and that assessment, information and training had to be developed in order to improve the quality of justice in the EU.
