Biography and career

Ms Karin Angerer assumed office as President of the German Federal Court of Justice on 1 September 2026. After completing her law degree in Berlin, she undertook her legal traineeship in Hamburg and wrote her doctoral thesis on a civil law topic. She also obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville, USA. 

In 1993, Ms Angerer joined the Bavarian judiciary, initially as a public prosecutor at the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office. Shortly afterwards, she was seconded to the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice for the first time and sent to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition as a national expert. In 1998, she returned to the judiciary and worked as a civil judge at the Munich Regional Court. Between 2000 and 2004, she took on another role at the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice before returning to the Munich Regional Court. In 2006, she was promoted to judge at the Munich Higher Regional Court. From 2010 to 2019 she undertook a further secondment to the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice, during which she was entrusted with the management of various divisions. In 2019, she was appointed Vice-President of the Munich Regional Court. Between 2021 and 2023, she served as Head of the Department for Training, Further Training, Examination Law and International Cooperation at the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice and concurrently as Head of the State Examination Office for Legal Professions. In 2023, she was appointed President of the Bamberg Higher Regional Court. From 2024 to 2026, she was also a member of the Bavarian Constitutional Court.
